I am a Principal Engineer for software engineering and architecture at Siemens Corporate Technology in Munich. Main part of my work is to consult software development projects at Siemens, and to advise the management of Siemens divisions and business units on software strategy, software architecture, and innovative software technologies. The second part of my work is research in promising software technologies, with a current focus on practices and technologies for product-line engineering and software technologies for parallel computing.
I co-authored four volumes of the Pattern-Oriented Software Architecture (POSA) series by John Wiley and Sons, co-edited several other books on patterns, and initiated the first European pattern conference (EuroPLoP) in 1996. I am a regular speaker at internationally renowned conferences on software technologies, including OOPSLA, ECOOP, JAOO, and OOP.

When I am not at work I am spending most of my time enjoying life with my wife Martina and daughter Anna, having fun riding our (dressage) horse Eddi, watching the time go by in Munich beer gardens, getting excited when watching my favorite soccer team, Borussia Dortmund, dreaming when listening to a performance at the Munich opera, and relaxing with rare Scotch single malts before bedtime.
